Listen to this week’s show:
Julian Assange’s legal team have filed a final application for appeal, the last option available in the British courts. If it’s accepted, it would come before two new High Court judges in a public hearing. If it’s rejected, Assange could be immediately extradited to the United States to stand trial for 18 counts of violating the Espionage Act, charges that could lead to a 175-year sentence. On Saturday Julian Assange supporters rallied in London’s Parliament Square.
Stella Assange, speaking to Consortium News Editor Joe Lauria, said that the European Court of Human Rights could intervene, but that British think tanks have been working on excuses to defy its orders. She said her husband’s freedom depends instead on popular support.
