*A “Summit for a New Global Financing Pact” was recently held in Paris. Ann Garrison reports.

*Pittsburgh Post Gazette workers have been on strike since October 2022 against a company that wants to bust the unions. Striker Andrew Goldstein, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette NewsGuild unit chair, spoke to Pacifica’s Steve Zeltzer about their struggle and what people can do to support their strike.

*A major Teamsters strike may begin on August 1 at UPS, the United Parcel Service. A leader of a NewsGuild local at the national convention of the Communications Workers of America NewsGuild asked CWA National President Chris Shelton about preparations and support for the strike. Shelton said he has not heard from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters president Sean O’Brien and neither have other union leaders.  Shelton made this statement on July 8, 2023.

*Local 11 of Unite HERE, the union of hotel and hospitality workers in Los Angeles, is on strike. On June 22, the workers organized a rally and a sit-in at the Los Angeles International Airport. We air a report from KPFK’s Working Voices.

*On imprisoned journalist Julian  Assange’s birthday July 2, 2023, the president of the International Federation of Journalists IFJ Dominique Pradalié called for the freedom of journalists Julian Assange. Her statement was read at Harry Bridges Plaza in San Francisco by National Writers Union member Edward Hasbrouk.
