Cuba is struggling with nationwide electrical blackouts, compounded by an over six-decade long blockade imposed on the nation by the United States government. 

Dr. Samira Addrey is a graduate from Havana’s Latin American School of Medicine. She now works with IFCO/Pastors for Peace so that other low-income youth can study medicine in Cuba and then go on to serve their communities in the U.S. Dr. Addrey spoke to Block Report’s JR Valrey.

The BRICS block of nations has just had its summit in Kazan, Russia, where it announced thirteen new partner countries. It has promised that it will have an alternative to the Western-controlled economic system and develop a new currency. Patrick Bond is a professor at Johannesburg University in South Africa who has been studying and writing about BRICS since its formation. In a recent interview, Bond spoke to me about the BRICS agenda and whether it can become a real political alternative to financial institutions like the IMF and World Bank.
