At a September 18th press conference at Oakland Airport, Renee Phelp of UAW Local 2320, representing UAW Region 6’s 120,000 members, voiced her support for the international campaign against the U.S.-backed Israeli genocide in Gaza and called for labor action.

Next, we bring you an excerpt of a conversation between Mahmoud Khalil — a former Columbia University student organizer for Palestine who spent over three months in an ICE jail in Louisiana — and former Washington Post opinion writer Karen Attiah. Khalil, a legal permanent resident whose first child was born while he was behind bars, is still fighting deportation against shifting government charges. An ICE judge has ordered him removed to Syria or Algeria, and his appeal is scheduled for October.
