Last week, the remaining criminal charges against 11 pro-Palestinian activists at Stanford University were resolved. They will be dismissed after the defendants complete community service and restitution. The students were arrested and prosecuted following a pro-Palestinian protest, where activists occupied the university president’s office and demanded that the university divest from companies supporting Israel.
Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen was removed from the case after a judge found a conflict of interest related to his handling of the prosecution. The California Attorney General’s Office then took over the case and reached an agreement with the defendants.
Filmmaker Boots Riley spoke at a victory rally outside the courthouse. We also hear from San Jose State Professor Sang Kil, a California Faculty Association member and a pro-Palestinian activist who successfully challenged her firing and returned to her teaching position.

San Francisco SEIU 1021 City workers are angry about a concession contract being pushed by billionaire mayor Daniel Lurie and the union’s top leaders. Augusto Guerra, chapter chair of mental health workers, and Cheryl Thornton, chapter chair of community health care workers, spoke out about the mayor’s continued outsourcing and privatization of public jobs. They also reported that they were threatened with retaliation if they spoke out and organized against the deal with the mayor. Pacifica’s Steve Zeltzer spoke with them outside a union meeting about the contract.
Since the recording of this story, SEIU 1021 accepted Mayor Lurie’s proposed contract deal, though a separate nurses’ unit rejected it.
